| You have a barrel of wine and you need to measure out just one gallon. How do you do this if you only have a three-gallon container and a five-gallon container?

| you fill the three gallon container first, and poor the wine in the three gal con. into the five gallon container. now there are three gallons in the five gal container. then fill up the three gallon container again and poor wine from that one into the five gallon container again until the five gallon is filled. the remainder of the wine left in the three gallon container is one gallon.
