Luke is 33 today. This is 3 times as old as Phil was when Luke was the age that Phil is today.

How old is Phil?

Well clearly between 11 and 33, but... I'm just not seeing the logic connection here.

So Phil was 11 when Luke was as old as Phil is today. From this I gather that Luke is older than Phil and thus was older than 11 at the time, but I need something else to compare their ages too, otherwise I'm just guessing.

So then I guess I'll guess and test, haven't done this in a loooong time.

Heh heh, I could have figured this out in a way more fitting.

Phil is currently 22.

Well, I think that it could possibly be 33.

Also in part of the riddle it "when Luke was the age that Phil is today." And seeing as Luke is 33 today Phil is the same.

That is one impressively confusing sentence... i'd say phil is 11 cause luke was 11 when he was the same age as phil is ...

If Phil is 33 then When Phil was 11 Luke would have had to have been 11, but
this is also when Luke was as old as Phil is today so Luke is also 33, but Luke cannot be 33 and 11 on the same day, not without a time machine, but the riddle doesn't need one.

If Phil is 22 then Luke, currently 33, would be 22 when Phil was 11, as 22-11=11 and 33-11=22 because Phil was 11 eleven years ago, I first tested 20 for Phil's age just as a likely guess that was between 11 and 33 and under the same math it came out:

20-9=11 and 33-9=24

then I tested 21

21-10=11 and 33-10=23, here I realized that 22 was the answer, that and it's fitting that the age would be a multiple of eleven as the other two ages in the problem were as well.

Yes that is one impressively confusing sentence, the trick is to pay close attention to the verb tenses, was and is are very different and it iseasy to forget how different they are.

Well, to be truthful I've never heard the riddle before, but I think my answer fits as well as any I can think of, plus that math works out, and math is usually a good gauge... (or however you spell that) It's nice to a have a math riddle not based on probability, which I still don't get.
