i have to hand in some interesting facts for my highschool newspaper, so please tell me what you think and if you think the students will like them
(i get excited over any little fact, so im not the best judgement of character
here they are:
1)When the moon is directly overhead, you weigh slightly less.
2)China has more English speakers than the United States.
3)Your stomach has to produce a new layer of mucus every two weeks, otherwise it will digest itself
4)Ants can survive up to 2 weeks in water
5)A Woodpecker can peck 20 times per second.
6)Ants keep other insects as "pets", mainly as "livestock"
7)Twinkle Twinkle Little Star shares the same melody as the the alphabet
8 )A ducks quack doesnt echo, and nobody knows why
9)A polar bear's skin is black. Its fur is not white, but translucent
10)On average, 12 newborns will be given to the wrong parents daily.
if theirs some you dont like, tell me which ones
thanks

those are GREAT!
I love the one about ant's keeping livestock but my favorite is "When the moon is directly overhead, you weigh slightly less. " I wonder how much less ??
How old are your kids? I think #10 might be very distressing!
10)On average, 12 newborns will be given to the wrong parents daily.
I read yesterday we hit the 300 million population mark in 2006, their is a birth every 8 seconds and a death every 11 seconds.
A birth every 8 seconds comes to 10,800 births a day (in the us) which if your stat is for US newborns that is still only a .0011111111 or 1:9000 chance that any one of us is with the wrong parents.
Of course, over 2,000 people visit this site daily so if yours is a US stat then once a week somebody comes to some-guy.com who is with the wrong parents!
But, so long as there is love there is family.

hmm, you make a good point
i am not good with numbers, so i would have never picked that up-
it may be distressing, but its Definitely interesting (if it were true), and an excuse many would want to use to explain their families weirdness
but i assume this fact is based on a worldwide stat, which if im correct would be more than 360,000(?) births a day
which make it more reasonable
and i have no kids:) im 17

Wasn't there discussion about that before in another thread, disapproving that fact? Or maybe it was another forum, I can't remember... Ah well, that fact isn't true. I already knew the polar bear one, but the others are cool.

"Mosquito repellents don't repel. They hide you. The spray blocks the mosquito's sensors so they don't know you're there."

| I can't remember exactly why but I think that Greenland got it's name to be deceptive about it's very cold climate, but by who and to whom I forget, and likley will not remember.

I'm pretty sure it was the vikings. They named Greenland and Iceland to trick... Um, that I don't remember.
